Diploma in Life Coaching

Diploma in Life Coaching Level 6
 
In this diploma students will develop the ability to integrate Life Coaching theory, frameworks with a wide range of models and skills. This diploma is placed alongside the cultivation of the students own personal development and is oriented towards distinctive Life Coaching in New Zealand. The objectives are reflected in the learning outcomes and assessment of individual courses as well as in the overall programme.

Course Outcome
 
Upon completion of the course a student will have developed character, skills and abilities to lead them to becoming a professionally trained Life Coach. Upon completion of the course a student will be able to deliver a high level of professional readiness; demonstrate knowledge of coaching principles and concepts to a level where they are able to work independently and safely with others.


Course Structure
 
The course is made up of 10 core compulsory modules and these modules are completed in numeric order and two other modules that can be selected from a choice of five optional modules.

 
Course Components
             
            
 
Module One:    Introduction to Life Coaching
 
In this module you will analyse what life coaching is and determine the differences between coaching and other behavioural modalities, therapies and counselling. Values, beliefs and assumptions will also be examined together with how this impacts upon the coaching relationship. Extensive work will consider the heart of a coach and their motivations for life coaching.
 
Module Two:    Values, Worldview, Culture and Discrimination
 
This module will examine core values, address issues of discrimination, discuss cultures and their diversity and will raise awareness of gender and racial and discrimination in professional life coaching practice. This module will give you extensive understanding of working with New Zealand cultures in the course of life coaching.
 
Module Three:  Human Development in Life Coaching
 
This module brings together traditional frameworks of human development and integrates these with life coaching practice. Research of different developmental patterns of New Zealand people groups will also be examined. Stages of human development will be examined in the context of life transitions and the impact of these on the coaching relationship.
 
Module Four:   Building Rapport with Clients
 
This module enables you as a life coach to construct a safe and challenging working environment with your clients, and analyses the skills required to build rapport, safety and effective attendance with clients. Collaboration in relationships will also be examined in conjunction with micro-skills, core conditions and internal frames of reference.
 
Module Five:    Communication Skills and Coaching Conversations
 
This module discusses interpersonal and interaction skills, analysis of communication techniques and will evaluate effective listening and feedback skills. Overcoming communication obstacles is critical to effective life coaching and this module will build the skills for this. Discussion and examination of transference and counter transference issues, and the structuring of coaching conversations will be analysed in this module.
 
Module Six:      Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy
 
This module discusses coaching techniques used in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy and Reality Therapy within a coaching context. Application and practice working with clients in different modalities and techniques will give you added skill in life coaching relationships.
 
Module Seven: Introduction to Neuro Linguistic Programming and Solution Focussed Therapy Techniques in Coaching.
 
This module discusses coaching techniques used in Neuro Linguistic Programming and Solution Focussed Therapy within a coaching context. Application and practice working with clients in different modalities and techniques will give you added skill in life coaching relationships.
 
Module Eight:  Life Coaching Models with specific focus on Coaching with Edge® Model
 
This module will identify coaching strategies that are outside of the above modalities and will help you develop frameworks to use and apply in life coaching that will become key components in gaining action with your clients.
 
Module Nine:   Human Needs in Coaching
 
This module helps you embrace a framework and apply the Coaching with Edge® model in situations of change, goal setting, conflict, stress, problem solving, anger, relaxation and sexuality. This module will further enhance your ability to use assessment tools and integrate this into your practice in a diverse range of contexts.
 
Module Ten:     Ethics and Professionalism in Life Coaching
 
This module analyses the importance of life long learning as a coach, monitors your self care and discusses multiple role and boundary confusion in life coaching. You will develop a framework of ethics for building a practice to ensure client safety.
 
Select Two Modules from the following Five Modules
 
Module A:        Health and Nutrition Coaching
 
This module will give you understanding of working with people to gain a healthy lifestyle. Research and study will include an understanding of habits and behaviours that control clients, analyse emotional issues, sexual issues and stressor that counter healthy living. You will develop appropriate strategies for clients who want to incorporate frameworks of exercise and relaxation. You will also gain understanding of working with people who have food intolerances and dietary needs in the context of a coaching framework. This module will ensure that you have understanding that enables you to work with professionalism in the area of Health and Nutrition Coaching.
 
Module B:        Human Development and Coaching
 
This module helps you understand coaching when working with a client in life transition or with difference experiences in life. This module will enable you to coach effectively clients who face health disabilities and physical challenges, or have issues in sexuality, compulsive behaviour or facing death.
This module gives extensive understanding in a diverse range of situations in order to ensure professionalism in working with clients in transition and facing issues of human development.
 
 
Module C:        Business and Executive Coaching
 
This module helps you analyse and develop a framework for business and executive coaching. Discussion and understanding will be had on the principles of building synergistic teams, organisational structure, culture and leadership. Integration and application of working with executives, managers and business groups in a corporate culture and application of adult education principles into a training context will develop your skills to enable effective business and executive coaching.
 
 
Module D:        Christian Coaching
 
This module helps you understand why Christians require coaching and discusses the differences you will encounter in working with Christians. You will develop coaching proficiency in order to help clients discover values, mission, and purpose in life. Alongside this you will research the use of images of God in a coaching context and analyse the appropriate role of prayer in life coaching. Coaching techniques will be applied to clients in a diverse range of situations in order to ensure professionalism in Christian Coaching.
 
Module E:        Small Group Facilitation in Life Coaching
 
This module discusses the validity of small groups and their place in life coaching. This module analyses the theoretical concepts of small groups and how to bring about a synergistic working stage that moves through the phases of action. Facilitation of a small group, the use of conversational skills and the use of adult education principles to achieve goals will also be well understood at the completion of this module. This module will ensure that you have effective understanding and appropriate skills required to work with small groups in a coaching context.
